J'ren & Dantrith

The next weyr that you enter is sparsely lit, you have to squint to see where you are going. Stumbling along you come up against something suddenly. **Woosh** The impact sends you spiraling to the ground. Seconds later you hear a thud, probably what you bumped into you think.

"I'm sorry, did I knock you over?"

A male voice comes from somewhere in the darkness, and you wonder if you hit your head harder than you thought. Suddenly a hand appears in front of your face. It's then you realize it's not what you bumped into, but who. You grab hold of the hand and are quickly hauled to your feet.

"Once again I say I'm sorry. I just woke up, and I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. By the way my name is J'ren. And you are?" You supply your name to the shadowy figure in front of you. "Well nice to meet you too, wait just one moment while I unshield the glowbaskets."

Almost instantly you can see again. You note that the weyr is very clean and neat, except for the slightly rumpled bed. A chest and press are pushed against the wall, while a table with chairs lie directly below a curtained window.

"I'm rather tired. I've finished bathing and oiling my dragon His name is Dantrith. He's right over there lying on his stone couch. I wasn't expecting to impress a bronze, but he wanted me." The joy and happiness in J'ren's voice is plainly audible.

Dantrith

After admiring the bronze dragon J'ren turns to you. "Why don't you sit down? You probably would need to after that bump I gave you." J'ren leads you to the small table and pulls a chair for you, than one for himself.

Suprised by a chriping sound you look down at the table and see a drowsy fire lizard stirring. It looks up at you, and flies of the table scared. A muffled sound grabs your attention, and you realize that it's J'ren trying to smother is laughter. Rather unsuccessfully you think.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't be laughing, but the look on your face..." It's then that you also begin to laugh. After several minutes of that you look at the young man of about eighteen turns in front of you. A strong square face with dancing gray eye. He appears to be tall, but not lanky. With thick, black hair that tends to curl, cut close to the head.

Murmurs rouse you out of your observations, and realize that J'ren is trying to convince his flit to land. "Rheu is only several sevendays old, I'm trying to convince to him that you are a friend." The brown flit circles around Jerren's head chittering at him like an old Uncle.

Rheu

After one last chirp it lands on his shoulder, glaring at you across the table. "Why don't you pet him?" J'ren suggests to you. Slowly you extend out your hand a scratch the brown's ridges. It's eyes start to whirl blue and green with happiness.

"You've made a friend for life." The boy in front of you says. Do you want to hear the story how I acquired him?" You tell him yes that you would. "Good. Let me get my journal. Rheu, would you kindly draw back the curtain?" J'ren goes over to his chest, while Rheu flies to the window.

He returns shortly with journal in hand and sits down. "Let me find the correct page, here it is." J'ren clears his voice before going on. "It was a cool spring day when the rider brought two fire lizard eggs to the hold. They were to go to the journeyman harper. The rider said that they were going to hatch soon, and that fresh meat was needed right away. I was sent to the kitchen to chop some up. I returned as soon as I could, by then the first egg had begun to crack. I made my way as fast as I could to the table, just in time for the harper's blue flit's head emerged. Just then the second egg split open revealing a brown. It tumbled over the table, and I grabbed him before it reached the ground. When he raised his eyes to me I knew I had impressed him. Well the rider jammed meat into my hand and told me to feed it. And that's how I came to have Rheu here."

J'ren carefully closes the journal and places it on the table. "Afterwards the rider asked me if I would like to be a candidate. He said that he was impressed by how quickly I reacted to saving Rheu." J'ren smiles at you and rises from the table. "Dantrith and Rheu are getting hungry and I have to go and feed them. Will you come back and visit? I promise not to knock you over again." You tell him that you will, and he smiles again. "That's good. Good bye now." J'ren waves to you as you leave his weyr.
